To stop the poxy rotten downloader BOTs from China, India, Russia or wherever; then I’ve had to password protect all of my download pages and forms. My books are still free to read, but my bandwidth isn’t finite.
The hard to remember password is [ 1 2 3 4 5 ]. Just that on its own 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 and no dashes.
Sorry to be such a pain, but it’s all down to these blasted automated BOTS that suck the web dry by hoovering up every blooming href link that they come across, and that would, (and does), include my own books if I let them.
Proof comes from the undeniable fact that I can still find my old (badly written) attempts at writing a story, on fake-pirated sites in China, and they are even charging folks (fools), to download them: cheeky blighters.
Foot note, .. well, more like a middling note of mild surprise really. This cranky ol’ cow has only just started using a program called Calibre for the Mobi and ePub conversion of my RTF files, a format that I use when writing in Word ™.
** The output looks OK in the internal reader supplied with the program, and it is also spaced accordingly, but I’ve honestly got no idea how they look out there in the wilds, .. (where you live.)
Any issues, then please use the contact form to let me know, ta’ very muchly, .. (Pet!)
Location location location, .. (all) of my book downloads, are (all) found off of their own respective series book pages; where the synopsis and descriptions of the actual individual books are found.
Just follow the links at the bottom of the webpage in question, and you’ll eventually come to download section: that’s been purposely sited (all) on its own, (all) done to stop the nosy stinking Bots from even getting a software foot in the door.
The correct type of files, .. the individual pages will have the ePub download links for Android and Apple devices.
– Along with the Mobi format download link that’s exclusively used in the Amazon Kindle audio players.
Also take note, .. due to the limitations of (all) of the internet browsers out there, with (all) of them being unable to download Mobi and ePub files directly, .. then I’ve provided (all) of the separate books (all) wrapped up inside their own safe ZIP archives.
- Upside: it means that the links will be downloaded immediately.
- Downside: it also means that you’ll have to unzip them once you get them home.
Any (internal) file-browser on your computer will do it, just select the zip file and extract it to a folder (directory) of your choice.
Technical side note, .. being as ePub(s) and Mobi(s) cannot physically have any malicious code built inside them, then you’re OK to download any of them from anywhere on the web, and as long as the filename extension ends with .mobi or .epub, then you are protected; because these type of files cannot take any type of direct action on your filesystem.
– Doubly so if the files in question have come directly from my own humble website.
From that directory of your choice, you can then just copy the correct type of files over to a new folder on your iPod, or whatever other device that you have connected to your USB port for the transfer operation.
** From there; after the download has finished, then the text reader in question should find the new book file folder, and then you’re away with the birds; as you slowly and delicately open — Chapter One!
Speaking of an added bonus, .. I’ve also included an HTML download link on the individual books download’s page as well. Which means that if you have a voice installed on your home computer, then you can use that to have the story read back to you in your own internet browser.
WOT! – Got No Voice?
Voices and software from Nextup.
Brilliant pricing structure for usable software and superb voices, but sadly: only for the Windows platform.
How to get a free voice in Chrome.
Speak-it is a chrome extension: that conversely uses your computers own built in voice, BUT! – It also adds one that’s not half bad from the Google vocal stables itself.
